House Shot at on Indiana Street – One Man Charged

Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)— Police were dispatched to the 121 Indiana Street on Friday, October 5, shortly after 7 p.m. to investigate a report of shots fired.  A witness reported hearing what sounded like two shots from a firearm, and looked outside to the street from a window.  The witness observed a black car speeding away northbound on Indiana towards Lincoln Highway.

In other witness related that he was in his house when he heard two gunshots.  Police recovered two spent .380 caliber shell casings in the street directly in front of 121 Indiana St. Officers observed a single bullet hole in the north downstairs window that faces the street.  The bullet continued east through the family room striking the wall and became lodged in a stud.  The projectile was recovered.  The second gunshot holes were located above the window on the fascia.  That projectile was not recovered.

An officer notified the Chicago Heights Police Department of the suspect vehicle description.  Chicago Heights police related that one of their officers had seen a vehicle matching the description given approximately 10 minutes prior, eastbound on Lincoln Highway, entering Fort Heights.  At approximately 7:30 p.m., SouthCom Dispatch advised that the Sauk Village Police Department was in pursuit of the vehicle northbound on Illinois Route 394 that matched the suspect vehicle.  The Sauk Village Police Department advised that the suspects had thrown an object out of the window.  Sauk Village officers stopped a vehicle on 394 near 159th St.  The officers placed two suspects under arrest, and transported them back to the Sauk Village Police Department.

Police did recover a .380 semi-automatic handgun on I-394. The serial number had been defaced, but was still legible, according to police.

Manuel D. Cuevas, 20, 318 Jackson, Park Forest, was charged with three felony charges: aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of a firearm with defaced serial number.  Charges are pending against a second individual.
