Oak Park, IL–(ENEWSPF)–February 26, 2013. The One Earth Film Festival, organized by Green Community Connections, will present more that two dozen compelling sustainability-focused film programs at venues throughout Oak Park, River Forest and Forest Park, March 1-3. Each film screening will be followed by thought-provoking audience discussion creating opportunities for understanding climate change, sustainability and the power of human involvement to make a difference.
The power and range of these films will appeal to those who are already committed to environmental action as well as to those who are just learning about the issues. Attend the festival to see challenging and inspiring films such as “Chasing Ice,” “Last Call at the Oasis,” and “Soul Food Junkies.” Some films will inform us and give us opportunities to formulate our thinking on current topics in the news like protecting our Great Lakes water supply, “Waterlife,” genetically modified food, “Genetic Roulette” and fracking, “Split Estate.” The films tell the human story behind the issues and the dialogue will be solution-focused.
Organizers of the One Earth Film Festival are committed to engaging youth and their families in helping to solve climate change issues. The festival aims to highlight the ideas and stories of young people during the festival in a myriad of ways. A new feature of this year’s festival is the “One Earth, Our Earth!” Young Filmmakers Contest for students from upper elementary school through college. The contest drew 12 film entries in which young people addressed the issue of “How will I help solve a problem” in the areas of water, waste, food, transportation and energy. Winning films will be shown at a special program starting at 11am, Saturday, March 2nd, at Beye Elementary School, 230 N Cuyler, in Oak Park. The film-showing and award presentation will be followed by a reception for the filmmakers, their families, friends and the public.
