Center On Halsted Invites All To The Inauguration Of The Nation’s First LGBT Homesharing Program

Chicago, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Center on Halsted cordially invites you to celebrate the inauguration of the nation’s very first Homesharing Program for LGBT older adults. The inauguration ceremony will be held in the John Baran Senior Center, second floor of Center on Halsted, and Homesharing Manager Britta Larson will deliver remarks at 8pm. Paula Basta, an active member of the LGBT Aging Task Force and Regional Director for the Northeast (Levy) Senior Center, and Dennis Flint, a renter applicant to the program, will speak as well.

The Homesharing Program will allow LGBT older adults to age in their own homes by taking on a renter to help out with basic household chores in exchange for reduced rent. While many older adults have family members who would take on basic tasks like grocery shopping, home maintenance or housekeeping, many LGBT seniors simply don’t have a family support network. The Homesharing Program would change all that, allowing older adults to age in place, and giving younger renters the opportunity to live affordably in a desirable neighborhood. It will also reduce loneliness, connect participants with the LGBT community and help foster new friendships. Center on Halsted, at no cost to the participants, will screen all potential candidates, facilitate matches and rental agreements, and support all participants throughout the duration of the program.

The Homesharing Inauguration is just one part of the Center on Halsted Holiday Open House, which runs from 6pm-9pm. We encourage you to tour The Center, learn about its many services and programs, and meet the people who lead them. Staff members will be present to showcase their programs and answer questions, and there will be drinks, desserts, and music.

Kindly RSVP to Jacob Kosior at [email protected] with your name and title. Please note that this is not an event to be widely publicized, but rather an invitation to members of the media to learn about the Homesharing Program and Center on Halsted.
