Chicago Lights is Only Chicago‐based Nonprofit Nominated to Win $64,000 National Grant Award

Voting for the third‐ annual Gerry Rauenhorst Building Community Award closes on Friday, April 14 at 3:00 p.m. CST.

CHICAGO—(ENEWSPF)–April 12, 2017 – Chicago Lights is proud to announce that it’s one of eight finalists and the only Chicago‐based nonprofit nominated for the third‐annual Gerry Rauenhorst Building Community Award. The award winner will receive a $64,000 grant from the Opus Foundation®.

Established to honor Gerry Rauenhorst, philanthropist and founder of The Opus Group®, the Gerry Rauenhorst Building Community Award recognizes Gerry’s legacy of giving and commemorates the rich history and tradition that dates back to 1953. One nonprofit will be awarded $64,000, recognizing the 64‐year tradition.

If Chicago Lights is declared the winner, the award will support the life‐changing education and social service program of Chicago Lights, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization at Fourth Presbyterian Church. Chicago Lights has served over 50,000 people experiencing the challenges of poverty since its inception of its first program, Tutoring, in 1964 and annually serves over 4,000 children, youth, and adults in the city.

“We’re honored to be one of eight amazing nonprofits nominated for the 2017 Building Community Award,” said Stacy Jackson, Executive Director of Chicago Lights. “Winning $64,000 would greatly impact our ability to continue to walk alongside people in need as they pursue brighter futures.”
