Cook County, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Cook County Clerk released the followin statement on the Illinois Senate’s passage of Civil Union legislation for gay and lesbian citizens:
I’m very pleased that Illinois has finally taken this crucial step toward equality. While religions function under their own rules, government cannot and should not discriminate against any group of people. As a longtime supporter of civil unions, I anxiously await the day I issue the first license in Cook County.
