End the Wars at Home and Abroad; Chicago Action on Saturday, April 21

NATIONWIDE—(ENEWSPF)—April 9, 2018

By: Joe Lombardo

The time is now to return to the street to make the voices for peace heard. Join us on April 14-15 for united, nationally coordinated regional mobilizations to challenge the war makers and defend humanity.

A broad coalition of peace and justice organizations have called for regional demonstrations in cities across the country on the weekend of April 14 – 15. Rallies and marches will take place in Oakland, CA, Chicago, Minneapolis, New York, Washington DC and Atlanta and many other cities around the country will hold local actions.

Under threats from expanding wars, the threat of nuclear war on the Korean peninsula, the recently expanded bipartisan military budget, the appointments of Mike Pompeo and John Bolton – two war hawks – to the Trump administration and increasing attacks on the living standards of the American people, the American anti-war movement is experiencing a massive revival and resurgence. The movement has united on a call for marches and rallies in regional centers around the country.

The spring actions will occur as young people across the country have mobilized by the millions to try to find a way past the gun violence that is happening in their schools and communities.  The racist police shooting of Stephen Clark in Sacramento confirms that these continuing acts of violence cannot be divorced from the wars and the militarization of our country as a whole.

The Chicago action will take place on Saturday, April 21 at Noon at Michigan Avenue and the Congress Expressway in downtown Chicago. For more information email: [email protected].

A list of actions planned across the country can be found here.

Endorsing Organizations include Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, Vets for Peace, the US Peace Council, the United National Antiwar Coalition, Code Pink, The Black Alliance for Peace, United for Peace and Justice, the Coalition Against U.S. Foreign Military Bases, International Action Center and over 300 other organizations.
