Donations Needed to Help Rebuild Central Park Wetlands Observation Deck

Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)—August 3, 2012.  A fire occurred in the Central Park Wetlands on June 27 that destroyed the observation deck resulting in approximately $10,000 in damages. Unfortunately, the deductible on the Village’s insurance policy is higher than the damages, so an insurance claim cannot be made.

The observation deck was used by many in the south suburbs – young and old alike, to enjoy the beauty of the Central Park Wetlands’ variety of native plants and view the more than 100 species of birds that have been identified by volunteers from the Thorn Creek Audubon Society.

In the true spirit of Park Forest, a grassroots effort to rebuild the observation deck has been started by George and Connie Manno. In addition, the Environment Commission, Recreation and Parks Advisory Board, and Park Forest Rotary Club are assisting with the fundraising.

If you would like to make a contribution to the fund, please send a check payable to the Village of Park Forest indicating in the memo section ‘observation deck donation’ and send to:
