Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Peter Mayer, widely known as the lead guitarist for Jimmy Buffett’s, Coral Reefer Band, enters into his tenth consecutive year with the Stars and Promises Christmas Tour.   The tour will make one of its seventeen stops across the country at Freedom Hall in Park Forest, IL on Saturday, December 4 at 8 p.m.

Peter Mayer, born in India, and the son of Lutheran missionary parents, developed the tour from the inspiration of his family. He says, “On Christmas Eve, my father would make a star out of a spotlight and a piece of gauze to show the Indian people from the village the way up the hill to our home where we would all gather.”

“It would send chills up my spine to hear these people, who had very little in terms of earthly wealth, sing with such joy and abandon. In the middle of it all, we shared a bit of Peace on Earth and we sang for what really matters – a Star to guide you home and a Promise that won’t fade with the passing years,” continues Mayer.

He pursued his love of music and studied classical and jazz guitar, Peter and brother Jim formed the pop trio PM, were signed to Warner Bros. Records, and toured with the Moody Blues and Chicago.  PM experienced success on the Billboard AC Top 10 chart, reaching No. 8. PM’s producer linked up the trio with Jimmy Buffett to play on his recording sessions. Nearly two decades later, the trio continues to perform, write and recorded as an integral part of Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band.

Joining Peter Mayer on tour are a group of eclectic musicians. They are percussionist R. Scott Bryan, Native flutist Mark Holland, bassist Marc Torlina, pianist Chris Walter, and Hopkinsville’s own Maggie Estes on violin and mandolin. Their repertoires span several genres of music and entertainment including Sheryl Crow, Barbara Mandrell, Buddy Spicher, Chris Ledoux, and Alabama to name a few.

About Stars and Promises:

The Stars and Promises legacy began in 2000 in the form of a studio album by the same name that featured original Christmas compositions by Mayer, his brother Jim Mayer and Mac McAnally. In 2002, he recorded Stars and Promises Alive, a live CD and DVD recorded in Nashville, TN  Mayer continued to tour and spread his message and music nationwide and give back to local communities: in 2005 Echoes of the Season was released, the third Christmas album in the series. A percentage of CD sales will go back to the benefit. Many people say their Christmas season hasn’t begun until they experience the “Stars and Promises” concert!
