CHICAGO HEIGHTS–(ENEWSPF)–April 30, 2013. On Saturday May 11th, 12-6pm, Union Street Gallery will close out the Rediscovering Chicago Heights Photo Voice Project with a FREE Arts & Jazz festival!

Outside the gallery visitors will enjoy live Jazz music provided by Prairie State College Jazz Bands, as well as food, drinks, and other fun activities such as a children’s art table. (there will be a small fee for food and drinks)

Inside the gallery people can enjoy the exhibit of photos of Chicago Heights, meet an mingle with the photographers and USG artists and vote for their favorite photo. A “people’s choice award” will be awarded to the photo with the most votes at the end of the festival.

About the Project
As part of a grant project funded by the Chicago Community Trust, 30 citizen photographers from Chicago Heights were asked to document what they felt was meaningful and beautiful to them in their community. Out of 300 photos, 62 were chosen to exhibit by Union Street Gallery artists, board members, and staff.

Two professional photographers, Alonso Balderas and Joe Compean were also asked to take part in this project and document Chicago Heights through their artistic vision. Their photographs will be exhibited on the first floor of the gallery while the citizen photographers will be shown on the 2nd floor. Together these photos represent an exciting, refreshing and inspiring view of Chicago Heights, allowing us all to rediscover Chicago Heights.
