Sertoma Centre Receives Check from Chicago Lawn Sertoma Club


Alsip, IL—(ENEWSPF)–August 4, 2014.  Jim Purrazzo and Michael Bradshaw of the Chicago Lawn Sertoma Club presented a check for $5,000 to Gus van den Brink, Executive Director of Sertoma Centre, Inc.  

Chicago Lawn Sertoma Club became a chartered Sertoma Club in April of 1964.  The national organization Sertoma is focused on meeting the needs of the community through volunteer service.  In addition to serving the community, Chicago Lawn Sertoma Club also hosts five fundraising events annually.  The proceeds from these events benefit Sertoma Centre, Inc. as well as organizations such as Together We Cope, Park Lawn, Sertoma Speech & Hearing Center and Misericordia.  They also conduct an essay contest which awards scholarships to students from high schools in the southwest region.

Purrazzo is a resident of the Palos Park and the owner of a Farmer’s Insurance agency located in Hickory Hills.  He has a family member who participates in programs at Sertoma Centre, Inc and serves as the director of the Chicago Lawn Sertoma Club.   Michael Bradshaw is a financial advisor with the Wells Fargo located in Palos Heights and is the club’s Treasurer.   Bradshaw said, “The Chicago Lawn Sertoma Club is all about rewarding deserving organizations, Sertoma Centre is a worthy cause because of the quality services and support they provide individuals with disabilities.” If you would like to learn more about the Chicago Lawn Sertoma Club, please contact: Michael Bradshaw at (708) 224-1374.

Sertoma Centre, Inc is a nonprofit, community service agency with two day facilities in Alsip, IL and a third facility in Matteson, IL which houses Mental Health Services. Sertoma Centre provides job training programs and services to more than 725 individuals with developmental, physical and emotional disabilities, and/or mental illness.  These services include vocational evaluation, developmental training, community-based assessments, senior programming, work adjustment training, residential services, janitorial skill training, foster care, job placement services, supported employment, specialized services, school transition services, psychosocial rehabilitation, and a sheltered workshop program.  Started in 1971 by three local Sertoma Clubs, Sertoma Centre serves more than 725 individuals annually.
