Subsequent to this release, the Illoinois Senate passed the marriage equality bill. The bill now goes to Gov. Pat Quinn for his expected signature.

I’m thrilled same-sex couples who are in loving, committed relationships will be able to get married in Illinois and be treated equally in the eye of the law. Gay and lesbian couples deserve full recognition and now they won’t have to leave home to tie the knot. State lawmakers took a historic stand that will allow Illinois to become 15th state to afford all residents the freedom to marry who they love.
