ICC to Host Transportation Electrification Policy Session

Chicago, IL-(ENEWSPF)- The Illinois Commerce Commission’s (ICC) first public policy session of 2020, Electric Vehicles (EVs): The Beneficial Electrification of Transportation hosted by Commissioner Maria Bocanegrawill be held on January 8 from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the ICC’s Chicago Office. 

“In line with Governor Pritzker’s pledge to reduce Illinois’ carbon emissions, green transportation, such as electric vehicles and electric transit, can help us meet and align our energy goals. This policy session will bring together a panel of experts representing consumers, transit, environmental, private and public interests to discuss the national impact of an increasingly electrified future and the integration of electrification in Illinois,” said Commissioner Bocanegra. 

The policy session will provide an overview of the national EV policy landscape, including insights on the development of EV adoption and deployment in other states, as well as critical topics and issues related to infrastructure, equity concerns, environmental impacts, and grid management.

Among the panelists invited to participate are:

  • Britta Gross, Managing Director at the Rocky Mountain Institute 
  • Jim Thomas, Vice President of Special Projects at Rivian
  • Alexander Keros, Lead Architect, EV Infrastructure at General Motors
  • Kate Tomford, Senior Analyst, Energy and Environmental Policy at the Chicago Transit Authority
  • Dr. Elizabeth Kocs, Director of Partnerships and Strategy at UIC and Energy Executive at National Renewable Energy Laboratory
  • Christie Hicks, Senior Attorney at the Environmental Defense Fund

“Market forecasts predict that the expansion of electric mobility will surpass 30 percent of the global passenger vehicle fleet by 2040. Illinois needs to be ready; and as regulators, the time is now for stakeholders to be informed and foster discussions to ensure we are prepared for the challenges ahead. I welcome anyone interested in this topic to join us at this on-trend and thought-provoking policy session,” said Commissioner Bocanegra.
