Interfaith Transitional Homes: You Can Make The Difference

charity-hands.jpg Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– One does not have to look far in our greater community to see families in financial distress these days.  Layoffs, poor hourly wages, personal problems, and a myriad of other reasons often can and does ultimately result in homelessness; this is especially sad for families with young children.  This great need for housing has resulted in the creation of a very special organization: Interfaith Transitional Homes.  This program exists only as long as there are individuals, the faith community, and local businesses to lend financial and volunteer support.  ITH provides housing and mentoring assistance to homeless families (one at a time) that have been perceived to have the potential to move to self-sufficiency within a two year period after receiving housing.  Each family is selected via referrals from the faith based community and by local service providers.  The chosen families, in addition to receiving housing, will receive ongoing mentoring from trained volunteers that provide assistance in areas of establishing long-term goals, financial planning, counseling, job training and education, and in other areas essential in working to attain self-sufficiency.

Through the generosity and financial support of individuals, businesses, community groups, and nine south suburban churches, ITH not only is able to provide housing but pays a portion of all budgeted expenses for the family for the two-year period.  Families must agree to counseling, job training, education and spiritual development programs in order to receive housing, if chosen after their referral. ITH has successfully placed their first family; however, there is a great need in two areas if ITH is to continue its work:

  1. Financial Support (Any size gift will help)
  2. Volunteer Mentors/Assist Families on a Needs Basis

Charitable contributions are tax deductible; Interfaith Transitional Homes is a 501C(3) Approved Charity.  Please forward any financial assistance or questions to the following:
