Investigators Suspect Arson in Vacant House Fire on Apache

Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Investigators with the Park Forest Fire Department suspect arson in a vacant house fire that occurred last week in the first block of Apache Street.

Police were dispatched to 28 Apache Street on January 6 at 7:12 p.m. to investigate a report of a structure fire. On arrival, Commander Winfrey went to the rear of the residence where he noticed fresh shoe impressions in the snow directly under the kitchen window. Footprints led to a broken bedroom window at the northwest corner of the residence. The Plexiglas had been removed from the bedroom window frame and entry was possible, according to police.

A resident had reported that when he returned home, he saw flames inside the front window of the residence, which was vacant.

The Park Forest Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire, which had been contained in the living room. According to fire personnel, the fire was suspicious in nature and most likely arson.

The case is to be turned over to the Detective Division for further investigation.
