WASHINGTON, D.C.–(ENEWSPF)–November 5, 2013.  U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL), U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) and U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (D-IL) hosted a reception yesterday with the Stanley Cup. The Members were joined by National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman in Senator Durbin’s Capitol Hill office to celebrate the Chicago Blackhawks’ second Stanley Cup Championship victory in four seasons. Earlier in the day, President Obama welcomed the Cup and the Chicago Blackhawks to the White House to honor the team and their 2013 Stanley Cup Championship victory over the Boston Bruins. While in Washington, the team also visited the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to thank veterans, wounded warriors, and their families for their courage and service to our country.

“The Blackhawks made Chicago proud when they brought the Stanley Cup home again this summer, and I’m honored to host the Cup here in Washington,” Kirk said. “Illinois is home to the greatest sports fans in the country, and Blackhawks fans will always remember the 2013 Stanley Cup Championship. Congratulations again to the players, owner Rocky Wirtz, President and CEO John McDonough and the entire Blackhawks organization for their thrilling victory.”

“I am so proud to host the Stanley Cup here in Washington for the second time in just four seasons,” Durbin said. “I wouldn’t mind if this became a habit. It took a memorable 17 seconds during Game 6 against Boston back in June for the Blackhawks to earn the Stanley Cup and a repeat trip to the White House. Congratulations once again to owner Rocky Wirtz, the entire Chicago Blackhawks organization and all of the great Blackhawks fans throughout Illinois.”

“It’s always a joyous occasion when your hometown team wins the Stanley Cup, but it’s indescribable when they do it twice in four seasons. Congratulations again to the Chicago Blackhawks on their 2013 Stanley Cup Championship! I’m already looking forward to third championship in 2014,” Quigley said.
