Kiwanians Ready To Feed 4,500+ This Year

Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)— Saturday marks the 56th Annual Pancake Day fundraiser for the Park Forest Kiwanis club. The tent is up and ready. The Pankatron, a device that can cook and conveyor 366 pancakes in one grilling, went up on Thursday. Four years ago Kiwanis reports began paying laborers to help them assemble. Setting up is a two day process, making sure that everything is sparkling clean for the fun on Saturday.

The all-you-can-eat-under-the-tent serving hours are from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. tickets are available at Village Hall today, Friday, and cost five dollars for adults and two dollars for children under 12. The cost is one dollar more at the door on Saturday. Kiwanis members and volunteers serve pancakes, sausage, milk and coffee.

With over a hundred volunteers, including the Boy and Girl Scouts, key clubs, and regulars who show up every year, and of course, lots of curious newcomers, the event continues to be one of the most popular in Park Forest. This is the biggest fundraiser Kiwanis runs every year, and planning for this event begins in February. Members hope to serve more than the 4,500 people they did last year, and all proceeds go back into the community to help primarily with children’s charities.

Editor’s Note: We apologize for the original rendering of this story, which listed the "Pankatron"  as "tanker drawn."  The editor just purchased voice to type software, Dragon Naturally Speaking, and, while the software is better than 99% accurate out of the box as the company claims, apparently "Pankatron" is a word it still needs to learn.   We look forward to the day when "Pankatron" is a word all the world knows, and have no doubt that day will be soon.
