The Chicago Food Policy Action Council (CFPAC) will host its “13th Annual Chicago Food Policy Summit: From Survive to Thrive,” on Friday, February 23, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the South Shore Cultural Center, 7059 S. South Shore Drive.  More than 175 local agriculture experts, elected officials, environmental justice authorities; emergency food providers; healthy food access and health care advocates; urban farmers; food workers; and students have already registered to attend.

CFPAC released details of the summit’s plenary sessions, workshops and confirmed participants, including a 9:30 keynote address by Amani Olugbala, assistant director of programs at Soul Fire Farm in New York, an organization dedicated to ending racism and injustice in the food system and strengthening the movements for food sovereignty and community self-determination.

This year’s summit is sponsored by DePaul University Irwin W. Steans Center for Community-Based Service Learning and Community Service Studies, and supported by generous contributions from the Margot and Thomas Pritzker Family Foundation, Field Foundation and Panta Rhea Foundation.

The Chicago Food Policy Summit facilitates the development of responsible policies to improve access for Chicago residents to culturally appropriate, nutritionally sound, affordable, and fair food grown through environmentally sustainable practices.  For more information about the organization, please visit its website at www.chicagofoodpolicy.com.
