AAA: August Gas Prices Continue to Fall


AURORA, Ill.–(ENWESPF)–September 1, 2011- Gas prices throughout Illinois and Indiana continued to fall in August. Monthly average prices in Illinois reached $3.81, according to AAA Chicago’s most recent Fuel Gauge Report. The Illinois average for regular unleaded gasoline has decreased $.06 during the past month, but is still $.99 higher than August 2010’s price.   

In northern Indiana, gas prices average $3.69, which is $.08 cents lower from July 2011 and up $1.01 from August 2010.
 
“While gas prices for Illinois and Chicago are still much higher than a year ago, they are starting to move in the right direction, which will be welcome news to consumers,” said Beth Mosher, director of public affairs for AAA Chicago.·         In Cook County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $4.01, which is down $.07 from last month and is $1.03 higher than last year’s price-per-gallon.
  • In DuPage County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.87 per gallon, which is a 7-cent decrease from July and up $1.01 from last year.        
  • In Kane County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.84 per gallon, which is 8 cents lower compared to last month and $1.00 higher than August 2010’s price.         
  • In Lake County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.84 per gallon, which is 7 cents lower than last month and up by $1.02 compared to this time last year.         
  • In McHenry County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.84 per gallon, which is 6 cents lower than last month’s average and $1.02 higher than August 2010’s price.         
  • In Will County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.83 per gallon, which is 5 cents lower compared to last month and $.99 higher compared to last year.          
  • In Champaign County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.69 per gallon, which is $.03 higher than July and an increase of $1.02 from last year.         
  • In McLean County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.65 per gallon, which is 6 cents lower than last month and $.96 higher than last year.          
  • In Peoria County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.65 per gallon, which is down $.10 compared to last month and up $.98 from August 2010.          
  • In Sangamon County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.65 per gallon, which is 6 cents lower than last month and $.95higher than last year.          
  • In Winnebago County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.71 per gallon, a decrease of 4 cents from July and $.95 higher than August 2010.          
  • In Allen County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.65 per gallon, which is a decrease of 6 cents from last month and $1.02 higher than August 2010’s price.          
  • In Lake County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.69 per gallon, a 7-cent decrease from July’s average and a $1.01 increase from a year ago.          
  • In Porter County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.68 per gallon, which is an 11 cent decrease from than last month and $1.01 higher than last year.         
  • In St. Joseph County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.69 per gallon, which is $.04 lower than last month and $1.04 higher compared to last year.
