AAA: June Gas Prices Finally Falling


AURORA, Ill.—(ENEWSPF)–June 16, 2011 – Gas prices throughout Illinois and Indiana fell in June, which is the first time since October 2010 there has been a month-over-month decrease. Monthly average prices in Illinois reached $4.01, according to AAA Chicago’s most recent Fuel Gauge Report. The Illinois average for regular unleaded gasoline has decreased $.25 during the past month, but is still $1.19 higher than June 2010’s price.   

In northern Indiana, gas prices average $3.86, which is $.29 cents lower from May 2011 and up $1.16 from June 2010.

“While gas prices for Illinois and Chicago are still among the highest in the nation, and much higher than a year ago, they are starting to move in the right direction, which will be welcome news to consumers,” said Beth Mosher, director of public affairs for AAA Chicago.

  • In Cook County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $4.28, which is down $.22 from last month and $1.28 higher than last year’s price-per-gallon.
  • In DuPage County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $4.09 per gallon, which is a 28-cent decrease from May and up $1.21 from last year.
  • In Kane County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $4.03 per gallon, which is 30 cents lower compared to last month and $1.16 higher than June 2010’s price.
  • In Lake County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $4.05 per gallon, which is 28 cents lower than last month and up by $1.22 compared to this time last year.
  • In McHenry County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $4.07 per gallon, which is 25 cents lower than last month’s average and $1.23 higher than June 2010’s price.
  • In Will County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $4.06 per gallon, which is 29 cents lower compared to last month and $1.22 higher compared to last year.
  • In Champaign County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.81 per gallon, which is $.16 lower than May and an increase of $1.08 from last year.
  • In McLean County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.82 per gallon, which is 30 cents lower than last month and $1.11 higher than last year.
  • In Peoria County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.82 per gallon, which is down $.33 compared to last month and up $1.10 from June 2010.
  • In Sangamon County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.63 per gallon, which is 36 cents lower than last month and $1.00 higher than last year.
  • In Winnebago County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.89 per gallon, a decrease of 25 cents from May and $1.21 higher than June 2010.
  • In Allen County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.78 per gallon, which is a decrease of 38 cents from last month and $1.12 higher than June 2010’s price.
  • In Lake County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.88 per gallon, a 29-cent decrease from May’s average and a $1.18 increase from a year ago.
  • In Porter County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.81 per gallon, which is 28 cents lower than last month and $1.12 higher than last year.
  • In St. Joseph County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.77 per gallon, which is 40 cents lower compared to last month and $1.14 higher compared to last year.
