Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- The bright lights coming from Norwood Plaza these winter evenings are from a business made anew. Stop-N-Shop recently completed a move across Western Avenue, opening Friday, and owner Hitesh Shah couldn’t be happier.
Hitesh has operated a business in Park Forest for 19 years. He purchased the former Taco Bell in Norwood Plaza on Western Avenue, completely gutting and refurbishing the structure. Adding new exterior lighting, the building appears welcoming and clean inside and out.
"Everything is new here," Mr. Shah told eNews Park Forest Saturday. "We rehabbed the whole [building], stripped it down."
"I’ve been in Park Forest a long time and always wanted to invest in the community," Mr. Shah said. "Since this building was up for sale, I decided to go ahead and buy it."
The business owner still plans to expand, planning to offer a modest selection of fresh fruit and expanding on the packaged goods currently available.
Mr. Shah appeared before the Village Board at the October 3, 2011, meeting seeking a Cook County Class 8 Tax Incentive for the property at 2560 Western Avenue. At that meeting, Police Chief Cliff Butz said the Stop-N-Shop has been a "model business for a number of years."
Hitesh said he works to ensure there are no violations, "I’m always on top of checking IDs for anything, liquor and tobacco. We’re very strict about it," adding that his employees are BASSET-trained (Beverage Alcohol Sellers and Servers Education and Training), the state of Illinois’ seller/server training program.
On only his second day open, Mr. Shah has been very pleased that his customer base has followed his move across the street, "The community has rallied around me ever since I opened the door yesterday. Everybody has been coming in."
