Chicago Teachers Union Suspends Strike

Classes for Chicago’s 350,000 public school students resumes on Wednesday

CHICAGO—(ENEWSPF)—September 18, 2012.  The Chicago Teachers Union has voted to suspend its seven day strike.  Chicago public schools will re-open on Wednesday.

The action was taken by voice vote by the union’s House of Delegates without voting on the new contract.  Union President, Karen Lewis indicated yesterday that it would be a “few weeks” before the teachers formally approved the contract.

Following today’s action, Lewis said, “We said we couldn’t solve all the problems…and it was time to suspend the strike.”
