An estimated 300,000 people attended the Chicago Women’s March 2018 today, the 1 year anniversary of the inauguration of Donald Trump. Last year, about 250,000 women and men attended the event held on the day after the Trump inauguration.

Saturday’s march was titled “March to the Polls” intended to mobilize women to vote, consider running for office and supporting female candidates.

The Chicago event began in Grant Park at 9 a.m. with a program of about a dozen speakers before marching to the Federal Plaza in downtown Chicago. Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and Chicago City Clerk Anna Valencia were among the speakers.

Those participating in rallies and marches in the United States and around the world denounced Trump’s views on immigration, abortion, LGBT rights, women’s rights and more.

At the march in Washington, D.C., which had the feel of a political rally, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Representative Nancy Pelosi urged women to run for office and vote to oppose Trump and the Republicans’ agenda.

“We march, we run, we vote, we win,” Pelosi said, to applause.
