Chicagoans to Protest Ventra at CTA Budget Hearing Today

CHICAGO—(ENEWSPF)—November 12, 2013. More than 100 people are expected at the Chicago Transit Authority’s budget hearing on Tuesday to protest new privatized payment system Ventra.

“Ventra has caused problems for hundreds of thousands of Chicago-area residents and they want to speak out. Additionally, many of us are against privatization of public services like the CTA, and others are further troubled by the fact that Cubic, Ventra’s parent company, is a military contractor and surveillance provider,” said Megan Groves, one of the organizers of this protest.  “In this age of American anger at NSA spying on U.S. citizens, I can’t believe that the city of Chicago would want to associate itself with such a company.”

People will gather outside at 567 W. Lake Street, Chicago for a brief rally at 5:45 p.m., and then enter at 6 p.m. to share their Ventra-related experiences and opinions at the hearing.
