City of Chicago Treasurer’s Small Business Expo Friday

chicago-treasurers-small-business-expoChicago, IL–(ENEWSPF)– This Friday, July 17th, City of Chicago Treasurer Stephanie Neely, will host the Eight Annual Small Business Expo. The event is free to the public and will be held the University of Illinois Forum, 725 W. Roosevelt Road from 8:30-3:30.

The Expo was established to help small business owners and entrepreneurs network and build successful business relationships. Each year the expo has grown in attendance and participation. “Over the years, the Expo has received high marks from participants, who are thrilled to connect with government, financial, and private agencies at one event and under one roof” said Neely.

This year’s event is on schedule to be as successful as last year’s with over 100 exhibitors from numerous industries and 30 business development workshops. Among the workshops presented are;

  • How to do business with State and County Governments
  • How to do business with the City of Chicago
  • Access to Capital and Financing your Business
  • How to Avoid Failure Thinking
  • Credit Availability and the Stimulus Package
  • Legal and Regulatory Changes Affecting Small Businesses
  • Change your Finances in 2009
  • Challenges for Small Business Owners
  • Handling Credit Problems

An expo favorite is the Business Plan Competition, where the contest winner and semifinalists are recognized by the City Treasurer. The first, second and third place winners will also receive a cash award. This year’s semifinalists are made up of start-up and existing businesses throughout the city representing the diverse industries in Chicago.

Small business is the biggest job creation engine in Chicago’s economy, making up 92% of all the business licenses in the City. The expo provides these business owners, aspiring business owners, and entrepreneurs, with the tools needed for success.
