Congresswoman Duckworth Calls for Equality in the Workplace by Cosponsoring the Paycheck Fairness Act

Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–March 28, 2013.  Yesterday, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth announced her co-sponsorship of The Paycheck Fairness Act. This comprehensive legislation bars retaliation against workers who voluntarily discuss or disclose their wages. It also allows women to receive the same remedies for sex-based pay discrimination that are currently available to those subject to discrimination based on race and ethnicity.

“Every individual in our country deserves equal pay for equal work,” said Duckworth. “The fact that women only make $.77 on the dollar nationally not only hurts women, but working families trying to make ends meet. Women in Illinois earn nearly $12,000 less than their male counterparts and I know that my neighbors believe that our daughters deserve better. During my service in the Army, I earned equal pay for equal work and this policy has helped to make our military the best in the world. I look forward to working with my colleagues to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act so that we can take a crucial step towards equality in the work place.”
