Congresswoman Duckworth Holds Telephone Town Hall with Neighbors on Importance of Protecting Social Security and Medicare

Schaumburg, IL–(ENEWSPF)–January 30, 2015.  Yesterday, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (IL-08) held a telephone town hall with her constituents throughout the 8th Congressional District on Social Security and Medicare. Duckworth has been a leader in protecting and strengthening Social Security and Medicare since her election to Congress in 2012. She took questions from numerous constituents during the call.

“Since Social Security and then Medicare were signed into law 79 years ago, millions of Americans have relied on these crucial programs to live their lives with dignity,” said Duckworth during the telephone town hall. “Millions more who paid into the system are counting on Medicare to one day provide them with quality health care and Social Security to provide them with retirement income.”

“Unfortunately, in recent years, some in Congress proposed ending the guaranteed benefit of Medicare and cutting Social Security to reduce our deficit. These same members of Congress are the ones who refer to Social Security and Medicare as entitlements. But that’s simply not accurate. These are programs that Americans have paid into and earned.”

Duckworth’s office held a Senior Resources Fair earlier this week and has helped 8th District residents solve hundreds of Social Security and Medicare issues resulting in thousands of dollars in benefits.
