Congresswoman Duckworth’s Statement on Budget Deal

Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–December 13, 2013.  Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (IL-08) released the following statement on her vote for the budget conference committee deal.

“I am pleased that a bipartisan agreement was reached on a budget that will keep our government running,” said Duckworth. “This agreement allows our nation to move forward, reduce some of the most damaging cuts from the sequester and avoid the partisan brinksmanship that has become all too common in Washington.”

“Still, this deal is far from perfect and I am disappointed that the agreement does not extend unemployment insurance for more than 230,000 residents of Illinois that need it, leaves much of the sequester in place and does not close tax loopholes that prevent large corporations from paying their fair share.  We need to create a budget that reduces our deficit in a responsible way while investing in the future of our country. I look forward to continuing to reach across the aisle and finding solutions to our nation’s challenges.”
