Congresswoman Robin Kelly Donates Books to Matteson Public Library in Honor of Black History Month

Matteson, IL—(ENEWSPF)—February 11, 2015. Congresswoman Robin Kelly delivered nearly 100 books to the Matteson Public Library, more than 60 of them on African American history in honor of Black History Month. The books were donated as part of the Library of Congress Surplus Book Program.

“Creating an opportunity for our children to read about the many great contributions and achievements of African American people is a fitting way to celebrate Black History Month,” Congresswoman Kelly said. “As a passionate supporter of diversity, I encourage knowledge of all cultures that make up our great nation.”

The Library of Congress routinely donates extra copies or surplus books to schools and non-profits through Members of Congress. Congresswoman Kelly regularly contacts schools and libraries across the 2nd Congressional District to introduce the program. Schools expressing an interest in the program receive age-appropriate books directly from the Library of Congress.
