Park Forest Man Devon Walker, 22, Killed in Lynwood Hit-And-Run

One man is dead and his cousin is in critical condition following a hit-and-run accident early this morning outside a roller rink in south suburban Lynwood, police said.

According to a release from the Lynwood Police Department, the accident happened about 2:18 a.m. this morning in front of the Lynwood Sport Center, a roller rink at 2030 Glenwood Dyer Road. Two pedestrians were hit by a white Ford pickup truck, which fled the scene westbound on Glenwood Dyer Road before being caught minutes later by police at the intersection of Ill. Hwy. 394 and Int. Hwy. 80/294.

Devon Walker, 22, of the 0-100 block of Apache Street in Park Forest with his grandparents, was pronounced dead at the Cook County medical examiner’s office at 6:30 a.m.

Walker’s cousin, Xavier Ward, 23, is in critical condition but stable condition and was undergoing surgery at the hospital late Sunday morning, according to LaShawn James, a cousin of the young men who said she had spoken with friends of Ward and Walker who witnessed the fatal accident. James said Ward was suffering from a broken pelvis and internal bleeding.
