Double, Triple, Quadruple Calls for Park Forest Fire

Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Among the 59 responses for the Park Forest Fire Department last week, the department answered double, triple, and quadruple calls. All in all, there were 15 fire/service calls and 44 EMS calls.

Response Activities: Quadruple Calls

Activity during the week of September 3-9, 2017, was quite up and down with slow periods and very busy periods. There were 10 double calls, 2 triple calls, and one quadruple call. In the multiple call situations above two, the department has to rely on assistance from other communities most of the time.

On Thursday, members of the department were dispatched on a box alarm to assist with a fire investigation in Frankfort. This request involved the entire task force with members from four different MABAS divisions requested. This request was to assist the Frankfort Fire Protection District in the investigation of one of the two fires that occurred in their jurisdiction that afternoon.

Training Activities

Tuesday, September 5 thru Thursday, September 7, shift members trained on hydrant drops. In these training session, each shift reviewed and practiced making hydrant connections while doing forward and reverse lays.
On Friday, September 8, shift members participated in Tri-pod training. In this training members reviewed tripods used by the Park Forest Fire Department. Then, working as a team, each shift set-up and rigged a tripod.

On Friday evening, POC members completed SCBA training. In this session, members completed the SCBA maze.

Other Activities

On Wednesday, the department attended the monthly SouthCom Operating Committee meeting. This meeting of the 4 police departments and 3 fire departments dispatched by SouthCom oversees the basic operations of the dispatch center and suggests policies and procedures for assisting in the operation of the center.

Also on Wednesday, members of the administrative staff met with the Finance Director to discuss potential strategies related to the current and future budgets. Members discussed the financial implications of various staffing strategies and the configuration of positions within the fire department.

On Saturday, September 9, the fire department along with human relations staff, staged the written examination aspect of the current firefighter/paramedic eligibility testing process. 40 candidates sat for the 2-1/2 hour examination with hopes of moving on to the next step towards creation of a hiring eligibility list for this position. Successful candidates will meet with the Fire and Police Commission later this month for interviews. These interview scores along with the other aspects of the process will provide the basis for the firefighter/paramedic eligibility list for the next 2-years.
