WASHINGTON, D.C.–(ENEWSPF)–September 19, 2012. U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel today announced that the Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded $1,500,000 in funding for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) to continue work on a new bus service along the Western Avenue and Ashland Avenue. The Western and Ashland Corridors Bus Rapid Transit Project is expected to strengthen connections to CTA’s and Metra’s rail network while improving reliability, speed and convenience for commuters.
“Investing in infrastructure today will create more livable communities and help our long-term economic growth in the future,” said Durbin. “This is another federal grant that will lay the foundation for a Bus Rapid Transit network that will bring faster, more efficient and more reliable service to Chicago’s commuters. I thank Mayor Emanuel for his leadership on this project.”
“This funding for BRT will help to develop a rapid north-south route along the west side of Chicago that will connect people to jobs and economic opportunities,” said Emanuel. “I thank Senator Durbin and the US DOT for their assistance in securing vital engineering funds for this project, and look forward to the advancement of our public transportation infrastructure and the opportunity it brings.”
