Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Four hours after a home on Bailey Road exploded today, firefighters were still working to extinguish flames.

Bailey Road was covered in mud. Neighbors stood by watching as firefighters from five communities worked to douse the flames in the immediate aftermath of the explosion. By 4:00 p.m., smoke was still rising from the basement.

“The only saving grace is no one got killed,” said James Gilbert, a resident in the 100 block of Birch Street.

As of 8:30 p.m., the street was brightly lit with emergency lighting as firefighters continued to put out flames. Officials said materials under debris in the collapsed basement would likely burn long into the night.
