Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– “There’s no place like home,” is one of the most famous movie lines of all times, but for millions of Americans, a decent, safe, affordable home is an unattainable dream. The shortage of low-cost housing is a nationwide crisis that is now exacerbated by the mortgage foreclosure crisis.

The official State of Illinois Comprehensive Housing Plan indicates there are over 75,000 households in the southern suburbs of Illinois defined as having “critical housing needs.” This means many are paying too much of their monthly income for housing, and/or live in substandard quality or overcrowded conditions. Habitat for Humanity Chicago South Suburbs (HFHCSS) is trying to assist.

HFHCSS has partnered with the Village of Park Forest in a program that will spend over $1 million in grant money for the purchase and rehabilitation of vacant and foreclosed homes in Park Forest. The Village has received $500,000 of this money and HFHCSS has received another $540,000 which they have pledged to spend in Park Forest. All homes will be sold to Habitat Partner Families who earn no more than 50% of the area median income and they will become great new residents of our Village.

The houses built or rehabbed are sold to those in need at no profit and with an interest free loan maintained by the affiliate. Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor into building their Habitat house and the houses of others. Habitat homes are affordable homes because HFHCSS holds the mortgage and insures that monthly payments do not exceed 30% of gross monthly income.

However, to continue fulfilling its mission, HFHCSS needs your help. A fundraiser will be held on Monday October 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Aurelio’s Pizza, 18162 Harwood Ave., Homewood, Illinois.

You can enjoy lunch or dinner from Aurelio’s on October 4 and support HFHCSS. Aurelio’s will donate 20% of any food and drink purchase on October 4. This donation applies to both dine-in and carry-out orders.

To participate, you must turn in the attached flyer to your Aurelio’s server or carry-out team member. Flyers will NOT be available at Aurelio’s.

So if you love great pizza, and want to help out this wonderful Village partner, please plan on having a meal at Aurelio’s on Monday, October 4.
