Today, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced the release of its Long Range Transportation Plan. The Plan is intended to help advance sustainable and multimodal solutions that support local goals and grow the state’s economy. The public comment period ends May 16.
Under Illinois statute, a Long Range Transportation Plan is required by IDOT to guide the development of the state’s transportation system. The plan defines objectives, identifies implementation strategies and sets measures for tracking progress.
Governor Rauner said, “Transportation is what sets Illinois apart from other states and gives us our competitive edge. The Long Range Transportation Plan outlines a path to keep making strategic investments in infrastructure that drive growth in business and promote safety and quality of life in our communities.”
Illinois Transportation Secretary Randy Blankenhorn added, “The Long Range Transportation Plan drives IDOT’s planning and investment decisions. We believe we’ve created a solid, inclusive vision for transportation that will steer Illinois toward continued success well into the future.”
As part of the plan’s release, federal funds administered by IDOT will be made available for statewide research and planning projects. Eligible projects include: planning studies; research activities; program development activities; performance management activities; and data purchase, collection or analysis.
