Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)-October 29, 2012. Nominations for the Park Forest Economic Development Advisory Group (EDAG) 2012 Business Person of the Year award are due by Wednesday, November 31. You can nominate Park Forest individuals, civic groups, and businesses that you believe are committed to community service. Additional information on the award can be found in the ‘This & That’ section.

Wednesday is Halloween and there are a lot of events happening in the south suburbs to ensure that your ‘goblins and ghouls’ can have a safe and happy holiday. A list of safe Halloween events can be found in this week’s column. And remember while you’re driving on Wednesday night to be on the look-out for young trick-or-treaters who may be darting across the streets. Wishing all a safe and ‘Spooktacular’ Halloween.

On November 4, it will be time to “fall behind” and set your clocks back 1 hour. Did you know that as many as half of America’s smoke detectors are not working because of old, disconnected or missing batters? This year when you change your clocks, begin a new habit of also changing the batteries in your smoke detectors. Unfortunately, the holiday season of brings additional fire hazards ranging from overloaded electrical outlets, unattended burning candles, to kitchen fires. Working smoke detectors are one of your best defenses against fire. So remember to change your clocks and change your batteries this weekend.
If your club, organization or local business will be holding activities or events in our community during the upcoming week, please send an e-mail to [email protected] with the details. Submission deadline is noon on Friday of each week.
