Jackson Votes for Jobs and Economic Growth

Washington, D.C.—(ENEWSPF)—April 15, 2011.  Rep. Jesse L Jackson, Jr. (D-IL) today voted against H.Con.Res. 34, the Fiscal Year 2012 Budget Resolution which passed the House 235 to 193.

Rep. Jackson said, “Budgets are more than an accounting of revenues and spending. Budgets are moral documents that speak to our values as a nation. Matthew 6:21 says, ‘Where your money is, there will your heart be also.’

“So what does the Republican budget resolution say about their priorities? Their budget 1) ends Medicare as we know it, doubling medical costs for seniors, 2) raises taxes for 95 percent of Americans to finance a $1 trillion tax cut for millionaires and billionaires, 3) cuts education investments— raising the cost of college for nearly 10 million students, and 4) gives away $40 billion in spending and tax breaks for big oil, while cutting all investments in clean energy.

“There is a better way. There is a better way to benefit all Americans not just the few and the privileged. I strongly supported ‘The People’s Budget’ which would have 1) eliminated the deficit by 2021, 2) put America back to work, 3) restored America’s economic competitiveness, 4) implemented a fair tax system, 5) kept Americans healthy and 6) brought our troops back home.‪

“Currently America faces an economic situation not seen since The Great Depression. The most effective way to correct the situation is to grow the economy by pumping money into it and decreasing unemployment.  The last thing Congress should do is decrease demand by slashing the social safety net while decreasing the tax rate for the rich from 35 percent to 25 percent.

“Over the last 30 years, voodoo economic, supply-side, trickle down tax cuts have yet to prove they can create economic growth, much less jobs, yet Republicans continue to peddle this snake oil to the detriment of the health and prosperity of America.”
