Joliet Residents Protest Bruce Rauner’s Outsourcing Record

Crowd chants “Rauner used NAFTA, workers got the SHAFT-A!”

Joliet, IL—(ENEWSPF)—June 27, 2014. As Bruce Rauner told a group of business people what his friends think about as they fly over Illinois in their private jets, everyday working people were outside protesting Rauner’s record of destroying American jobs.

A fired up crowd chanted “Hey hey, ho ho, we don’t want THIS CEO,” and “Rauner used NAFTA, workers got the SHAFT-A!”

The protesters were referencing Rauner’s time as director of the Polymer Group, a company that netted a $13.4 million profit by expanding its operations in Mexico after NAFTA.  Rauner also profited off a number of other companies that outsourced jobs, including a self-described “premier global business outsourcing firm.”

“Rauner’s record is clear.  He profited from shipping jobs overseas,” said Neal Waltmire, Communications Director for Illinois Freedom PAC.   “We can’t trust someone who is willing to destroy the lives of hard-working middle class families in order to make a profit.”

Protesters handed out a factsheet and noted Rauner’s record of destroying jobs was not solely confined to outsourcing.  Their signs showed graves commemorating jobs Rauner-financed companies killed, including jobs sacrificed in Chicago and Waukegan.

“Rauner says he wants to run the state like a business.  Illinois’ middle class families can’t afford to let Rauner run Illinois like one of his businesses,” said Waltmire.
