Kelly and Durbin Announce $2 Million Investment in Glenwood to Support Infrastructure Projects and Create Jobs

WASHINGTON, D.C.—(ENEWSPF)—September 26, 2013. U.S. Representative Robin Kelly (D-IL) and Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce’s (DOC) Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded $2,000,000 in Economic Development District Planning funding to the Village of Glenwood, Illinois to create jobs and aide the construction of critical infrastructure. The project is expected to create 60 local jobs and leverage $3 million in private investment for the area.

“Not only will this federal investment support local construction jobs, it will also leverage private investment and help attract new business to the area, spurring economic growth and creating jobs throughout the region,” Durbin said.

“Congratulations to village leaders in Glenwood for seeking and securing federal assistance to improve and expand Glenwood’s industrial park,” said Congresswoman Robin Kelly.  “Mayor Durkin and his staff deserve credit for putting limited federal resources to good use. This project will create construction jobs today, while the soon-to-be enhanced industrial park will create more jobs in the future.  This grant demonstrates how federal and local governments can work with private industry to rebuild the American economy.”

Today’s funding will be used to help construct road, water and other crucial infrastructure needed to accommodate the expansion of the village’s industrial park.

EDA is an agency within the U.S. Commerce Department and supports the economic development needs of distressed communities throughout the United States.  Its mission is to lead the federal economic development agenda by promoting innovation and competitiveness and preparing American regions for growth and success in the worldwide economy.
