CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–August 23, 2011.  Illinois Department of Human Rights Director Rocco Claps joined the Consuls General  of Mexico, El Salvador and Guatemala to announce the upcoming Labor Rights Week.  During this year’s Labor Rights Week, entitled “Women in the Workforce,” the Mexican Consulate will host a series of workshops and activities to inform the community about workers’ rights in Illinois.  Director Claps discussed how to report discrimination in employment, including gender-based discrimination, sexual harassment, discrimination based on disability and other bases.

“One of my Department’s top priorities is to develop information about our services in as many languages as possible to better assist individuals from all backgrounds who may have been discriminated against,” said Dir. Claps.  “Labor Rights Week will give our Department the opportunity to work with the Latino community and help create greater awareness of our services that are available in Spanish.”

Consul General of Mexico Eduardo Arnal, along with  the Consul General of El Salvador Patricia Maza-Pittsburg and Consul General of Guatemala Hugo Hun highlighted the theme for this year’s Labor Rights Week “Women in the Workforce” which will be held from Aug 29 through Sept 2.  Other state agencies including the Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL) and the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) will also participate in the weeklong event, which will be held in Cicero, Bensenville, South Chicago and Waukegan.
