Leadership of BYP100 Arrested Along with Dozens of Others Involved in #StopTheCops Actions


As of 5:30p.m. CST, More than 80 Arrests and Tickets Expected

CHICAGO –(ENEWSPF)–October 24, 2015.   Today more than 300 Black organizers, leaders and allies, including BYP100, Assata’s Daughters, Black Out Pride, Not One More, We Charge Genocide and many others from across the country, participated in a march and five direct actions in downtown Chicago as part of the “I Shocked the Sheriff” Counter-Conference. The #StopTheCops actions, aimed at the International Association of Chiefs of Police, who are holding their 122nd annual convening at the Hyatt McCormick, are still ongoing at this time.

The dozens of arrests include the leadership of BYP100, a Chicago-based national racial justice organization that co-sponsored the counter-conference and actions.

Direct actions that caused a major disruption included a mass march and groups of 20 plus organizers locking themselves together at intersections around McCormick Place. Demonstrators were also locked dowm inside the Hyatt.
