Flossmoor, IL–(ENEWSPF)– The League of Women Voters will sponsor a forum this Wednesday, January 13, featuring candidates running in both the Republican and Democratic primary races for the 5th District of the Cook County Board. The meeting will be held at the Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling, beginning at 6:45 pm. One hour will be devoted to candidates from each party.

There are two individuals seeking the spot on the ballot for each party. The Republican candidates are Miriam Shabo and James Thigpen. The Democratic candidates are incumbent commissioner Deborah Sims and challenger Sheila Y Chalmers-Currin.

The 5th District includes the Lincolnwood area of Park Forest, as well as Eastgate and Ash Street, areas south of 26th Street including Chestnut Street, and cooperatives, townhomes and condominiums west of Western and east of Forest Boulevard. The district also includes Matteson and Olympia Fields. Check your voters registration card to see if you live in the 5th District.

The forum is being sponsored by the Leagues of Women Voters of the Park Forest Area, the Homewood-Flossmoor Area, and the Palos Orland Area. One of the League’s main purposes is voter education. The public is strongly encouraged to attend this important opportunity to learn about the candidates.
