Local Author Wants Justice After Crash With USPS Truck

Chicago, IL–(ENEWSPF)– As an author and educator, Jim Martin prefers to not be the story. Unfortunately, the soft-spoken Marian Catholic teacher, author of two novels, found himself in the middle of a Tri-State Tollway nightmare just before Christmas.

While approaching the Lincoln Oasis in I294 on December 21, 2010, Martin found his car spinning after a white United States Postal Service semi-trailer slammed into him while attempting to exit to the oasis from the middle lane of traffic. Martin says the USPS vehicle crashed into his vehicle, sending it spinning across the oasis entrance lane into a ravine. His vehicle succeeded in knocking down a light pole.

And, as the Bard would say, "Here’s the rub."

The driver of the USPS vehicle pulled over under the oasis, got down from his cab, looked at James Martin — who at this point had exited his vehicle and was ready to exchange insurance information — and drove away.

"Drove away from scene of the accident," the official accident report says.

"I could scarcely believe that someone would pretend to do the right thing," Martin says, "and then drive away."

Martin’s vehicle is in the garage undergoing repairs.

If you are the driver of the semi, well, perhaps you could step up?

He would really appreciate some help from the United Postal Service’s insurance carrier with his deductible.

Note: The reporting officer’s name, according to the report, is ‘J. Dabrowski / (5442).’ The Agency Report Number is 15-10-07123. The ‘MDR ID’ is ISP-5442-20101221-123445.’ If you witnessed this crash or have information, please contact the Illinois State Police.
