Update, 2-26-11 11:33 a.m.: Mayor Ostenburg informed the Village Board First Midwest Bank agreed that there will be no cost or overhead for this fund. Every dollar contributed will be divided equally to both Yolanda and Christina.

Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Mayor John Ostenburg announced Friday that an account has been established at First Midwest Bank in Park Forest to assist the victims of the home explosion on Bailey Road.

"Yolanda Collins and Christina Sandoval lived side-by-side in the two units of the duplex building that was destroyed by the explosion and subsequent fire," Ostenburg said in an email. "They each lost all their personal belongings in that unfortunate happening. Also unfortunate is the fact that neither had insurance to cover her home furnishings, furniture, clothing, or other items. While the Cooperative’s insurance covers the physical structure in which their residences were located, none of their personal items can be covered under that policy."

Ostenburg continues:

To help deal with this tragedy that has struck two of our Park Forest residents, I have arranged for a special fund to be established at the First Midwest Bank. All monies donated will go directly and equally to Yolanda and Christine. I urge you to join in this effort to show our community support for two of our fellow residents who are in need.

Donations may be sent to…

First Midwest Bank
2 Main Street
Park Forest, IL 60466

Checks should be made out to the bank but marked as contributions to the Yolanda Collins & Christina Sandoval Funds.

Park Forest long has been a Village in which community spirit has been a hallmark. I encourage you to show that spirit again, by assisting two of our own who are in need.

Thanks to Camille Van Dyke of the Birch Street Townhomes staff, to Village Manager Tom Mick, and to Branch Manager Latonya Barnett of the First Midwest Bank’s Park Forest office, for assisting me in setting up this opportunity for all Park Foresters to show their support for Yolanda and Christina.

Also, a big THANK YOU to all of you who choose to respond to this request.
