Mayor Emanuel, Chicago Park District Announce Winter Park Program Registration to Begin December 1

Winter registration comes on heels of record-setting fall programming season

CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–November 21, 2014.  Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the Chicago Park District today announced that online registration for winter programming begins on December 1, with in-person registration to begin on December 6. Indoor swimming lessons, basketball leagues, after-school programs, fitness center memberships and winter-break camps are among many of the offerings soon to be available for the upcoming season.

“Park District programming continues to draw record numbers of Chicagoans because their variety, affordability and convenience,” said Mayor Emanuel. “No matter your age, neighborhood or income level, the Park District has something for everyone and is helping to keep residents active and engaged, all year long.”

Programs can be viewed online beginning Monday, November 17. Registration kicks off Monday, December 1 at www.chicagoparkdistrict.com. Online registration takes place over two days and in two different zones:

• Parks located west of California Avenue will begin online registration on Monday, Dec. 1 at 9 a.m.

• Parks located east of California Avenue will begin online registration on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 9 a.m.

“At the Chicago Park District we pride ourselves on offering the best deal in town,” said Parks Superintendent Michael P. Kelly. “With offerings for everyone – from toddlers to seniors – there is no reason for inactivity this winter.”

In-person registration begins at local parks Saturday, Dec. 6 or Monday, Dec. 8 depending upon the park location. Most winter session programs begin the week of Jan. 5, 2015, and run through the week of March 16, 2015, with the exception of winter-break camps which begin Monday, December 20. The Park District works with residents to ensure that no child is turned away due to their inability to pay, and financial assistance is available.

The Chicago Park District continues to reach record registration numbers. This fall, registrations for programming grew by seven percent to over 90,000 residents. Instructional programming offered by the Park District also increased, growing five percent this year to nearly 5,400 opportunities, up from 5,150 opportunities available in 2013.
