Washington, DC-(ENEWSPF)- National League of Cities President Ted Ellis has announced the appointment of Mayor John A. Ostenburg of Park Forest to the National League of Cities’ (NLC) 2012 Community and Economic Development (CED) Steering Committee.
The CED committee is responsible for developing policy positions on issues involving housing, community and economic development, land use, recreation and parks, historic preservation and international competitiveness. The appointment was announced by President Ellis, who is mayor of Bluffton, Ind.
“I am very pleased to be appointed to this post,” Mayor Ostenburg said. “It gives me the opportunity to introduce issues relating to Park Forest and the entire south suburban community into the NLC’s national policy agenda.”
As a member of the committee, Mayor Ostenburg will play a key role in shaping NLC’s policy positions, while advocating on behalf of America’s cities and towns on Capitol Hill, with the Administration, and at home. For the last several years, he has served on the NLC’s Community & Economic Development Policy Committee, which is a larger group and deals with the agenda that the CED Steering Committee establishes.
Chair of the 2012 CED Committee is Neal Andrews, a council member from Ventura, Calif. Serving as vice chairs are Frank “Tony” Thomas, an alderman from Savannah, Ga., and Priscilla R. Tyson, a council member from Columbus, Ohio.
The NLC is the nation’s oldest and largest organization devoted to strengthening and promoting cities as centers of opportunity, leadership and governance. NLC is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans.
