Off-Duty Lockport Police Officer Ed Stapinski Charged In Fatal Stevenson Crash

Chicago, IL–(ENEWSPF)–

From the Chicago Tribune:

Cook County prosecutors this evening announced drunk driving charges against a Lockport police officer who was involved in an accident on the Stevenson Expressway Sunday that killed an immigrant from Vietnam driving home from his second job.

Ed Stapinski, 34, was charged with one count of reckless homicide and one county of aggravated driving under the influence, said Andrew Conklin, a spokesman for the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.

Stapinski is expected to appear in bond court on Tuesday morning at the Bridgeview courthouse, Conklin said. Conklin would not say what town Stapinski lived in saying, that they do not release the addresses of police officers charged with crimes. He did not know what Stapinski’s blood alcohol level was at the time of the crash.

His family declined comment Monday evening.

Earlier, a source said the 34-year-old officer was given a blood alcohol test and was admitted to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.
