CHICAGO—(ENEWSPF)—April 17, 2014. On Earth Day, April 22, Chicagoans will join the national Global Climate Convergence (GCC) for People, Planet and Peace over Profit, an education and direct action campaign launching Earth Day to May Day, 10 days of action to unite the people’s struggles.
This demonstration and march will start at the State of Illinois Building, 100 W. Randolph St., at 4:30 p.m. with music and speakers. The march will step off at 5:15 p.m.
“On Earth Day, Chicago will march against some of the biggest climate criminals and destructive corporations in the world. We will be issuing them ‘Cease and Desist’ notices and will demand that people, peace, and the planet be put before profits,” says Jackie Spreadbury of GCC Chicago.
The march will stop at Boeing, 100 N. Riverside Plaza, to call them out for being a polluting military contractor that reaps massive profits from war. It will also pass BP, 30 S. Wacker, a gigantic fossil fuel polluter, and Chase Tower, 10 S. Dearborn. Organizers describe Chase as a major investor in climate destroying projects like fracking, and one of the principle players in the foreclosure crisis.
“The shaky foundation of our current economy is based on fossil fuel extraction and war. We are on a path to climate and economic catastrophe and if we don’t change course now the repercussions will be irreversible. We need to build a society and economy that works with Mother Nature, not against it,” says Angie Viands with Rising Tide Chicago.
