Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Park Forest Police Chief Peter Green will retire on October 20, 2017 after 28 years of service, according to a statement from the PFPD.

Chief Green grew up in the Village of Park Forest, raised by Walter and Elizabeth Green, according to the statement. “His father, Wally, would retire as a Park Forest Police Department Lieutenant, making Pete Green the first second-generation Park Forest Police Officer when he was appointed as a police officer in 1990.”

Chief Green served in the U.S. Army prior to his police service, stationed at U.S. Army Garrison Schweinfurt in Germany.

He carried the discipline of the U.S. Army into his professional life. On a personal note, this writer recalls seeing then-Officer Green at a Marian Catholic High School home football game. Officer Green was working as a security officer. As the rain fell, Officer Green stood vigilant, wearing no hat, carrying no umbrella. As the rain fell, he stood at watch.

The Chief served on the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, the South Suburban Emergency Response Team, and spent a large portion of his career in the Investigations Division, according to police. He was appointed as Chief of Police in 2015, and during his service as Chief of Police, he oversaw extensive police department renovation, including the construction of a secure lock-up facility.

Also, under his command, “proactive procedural justice awareness and training” was implemented among the police force. This training emapasizes that, along with law enforcement, officers must uphold the constitution. Officers must follow proper procedure while going about their jobs, making sure the rights of individual persons are respected.

Among the decorationsChief Green earned while with the PFPD are 38 Outstanding Service Awards, 10 Meritorious Service Awards, 3 Term Awards, and was the 2002 Officer of the Year.

“The Park Forest Police Department extends its heartfelt thanks to Chief Green for his 28 years of police service and 4 years of military service, and for his many contributions to the success of the Park Forest Police Department and to the safety of the residents of Park Forest,” the statement said. “We wish him a long and happy retirement with his wife and with their two adult daughters and their expanding families.”
