Rahm Emanuel Next Mayor of Chicago


Chicago, IL –(ENEWSPF)—February 23, 2011.  Rahm Emanuel (D) has been elected mayor of Chicago.  President Obama’s former White House chief of staff exceeded 50 percent of the vote in the six candidate race and thereby will avoid an April 5 runoff election.

Emanuel will replace Richard M. Daley who is retiring after 22 years in office.

In a statement released Tuesday night, President Obama said, “As a Chicagoan and a friend, I couldn’t be prouder.  Rahm will be a terrific mayor for all the people of Chicago.
