Rep. DeLuca Votes ‘Yes’ to Secure Funding for Essential State Services

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. –(ENEWSPF)—July 2, 2015. To ensure vital community services remain available to families who depend on them, state Rep. Anthony DeLuca, D-Chicago Heights, voted to provide emergency funding for critical programs through the month of July.

“Many constituents have shared their concerns with me about their elderly parents or developmentally disabled children losing home care services as the state enters the next fiscal year,” DeLuca said. “These essential programs ensure the health and safety of countless individuals most in need living in our communities. I will continue to put families most in need first and protect services they depend on.”

The spending plan called for extending $2.2 billion in state funds to pay for critical services while negotiations concerning a Fiscal Year 2016 budget continue. Under House Bill 4190, House Amendment 1 some of the programs that would have received funding included child care assistance, home services for seniors and individuals with developmental and physical disabilities, the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition program, addiction treatment, meals on wheels and the Illinois State Police. Additional funding would also have been available for medical assistance through the state’s Medicaid program.

“We need to think not only about the short term, but also the long-term impact that our budget decisions will have on the people we serve,” DeLuca said. “It is time for lawmakers to put aside their differences and do what is best for the people of Illinois.”
